Alan R. Bennett, 80, of Cadosia, NY, died on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY. He was born on March 15, 1941 in Lakewood, PA, the son of Russell and Clara (Wood) Bennett and step-son of Merton Houshultz. He married Rosemary Shaffer on May 12, 1962 at St. Pauls Church, Hancock, NY.
Alan worked as a mechanic for NYSDOT and retired after 28 years. He also owned and operated Als Used Cars, which turned into a small engine sales and repair shop, for many years. He was a member of the Stony Hollow Hunting Club and the Twin Rivers Snowmobile Club. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and was referred to as the "animal whisperer" by his children.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary; 5 children: Tim (Ginger Wegman), Theresa Beers, Bruce (Laurie), Valerie (Edward Hunter), and Linda (John Letosky); 9 grandchildren: Shaun, Jolene, Alyssa, Katelynn, Alexis, Megan (Nick Petriella), Rachel, Kylee, and Tomas; and 2 great grandchildren, Jaylin and Kirra. Alan is also survived by his brother, Larry Bennett and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Carol Snyder; brother, Michael Bennett; son in law, George Beers; and sister in law, Barb Bennett.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 11AM-1PM with a funeral service following at 1PM all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Interment will follow in St. Pauls Cemetery, Hancock.
