Alfred R. Squires, affectionately known as Ponch, 75, of Hancock, died on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton. He was born on March 22, 1938 in Hazel, NY. Al worked at Mallery Lumber for 35 years. Surviving are 2 sisters, Jenny Travis and Nellie Crompton, 2 brothers, Raymond Squires and Donald Squires, a niece, Heather and husband Jamie Schoonmaker and family, and many other nieces and nephews and extended family.Al was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Berthy(Crandall) Squires and his "adopted" parents, Arnold & Leona Thomas. He is also predeceased by 4 sisters, Charlotte Squires, Laura Squires, Eleanor Kapschar, and Emogina Bolster, and 1 brother, Francis Squires. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11AM also at the funeral chapel.
