Obituary

Do you know what its like when a person enters the room and you just know everything is going to be okay and that somebody loves you? We all have felt that when Alice has visited us or given us a call. Alice Virginia (White) (Quintal) Furfaro has left this plane going into the next. Alice led a very full, happy and healthy life up until her very last day. She gave her all everyday of her life. That day she had a houseful of friends playing bridge. She was so thankful to have found this bridge group because she had left her dear bridge friends of 50 years when she moved permanently to Hancock, N.Y. twelve years ago. Alice was born and raised in Harlem, N.Y.C. spending summers in Croton Point Park right on the bank of one of her favorite rivers the Hudson River. When she was a young teen her family moved to Montrose, NY where she graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School. It was here that she met her first husband the late Joseph Quintal Jr. Alice and Joe raised their family of three girls in Croton-on-Hudson, NY until his passing. Alice became the head of the household continuing to raise her girls and work at F.G. Lindsey elementary school until her retirement. By chance Alice and Vinny crossed paths together and began their adventures. For instance, one year Alice and Vinny canoed from the mouth of the Hudson all the way to his hometown, Verplanck, NY. If you asked her about her life, she would tell you what a wonderful ride it all has been. She contributed in her generous manner to help anyone, to always be present for them. For many years she was one of the smiling faces that delivered meals to people. For the last ten years she became a very devoted Delaware Valley Garden Club member. Anyone who knew her clearly would recognize a dedicated gardener by just driving by her house. Everyone who drove by her home was greeted with a wave and a smile. People couldnt help but stop to compliment her showcase property. Alice was a woman with many facets. To name a few: kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, insightfulness, dedication, and humor. Within her warm presence you were always made to feel special. She will be sorely missed. She leaves behind her beloved family. Her adoring husband, Vincent A. Furfaro, her grateful daughters Kim Vargo (Peter), Lisa Lobdell (Tim), Amy Lamash (Marc). Her step-sons Vincent (Joann), David (Dawn), Gary, Thomas (Ann) and Christopher Furfaro. Alice also leaves behind her brother, George White, brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews as well as many life long friends. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and their spouses and 20 great-grandchilden. She was the matriarch that held us tightly together and all were very close to her heart. It is with great sadness that we have to share the news of Alices death. Thankfully she has left us with knowing that there is goodness in this world, that there is love to share with others, and to live each day to the fullest. Rest in peace. In memory of Alice if youd like she would have loved it if you made a donation to the Delaware Valley Garden Club c/o Lori Nelson 259 Main St. Box 7 East Branch, NY 13756 an organization she was so dedicated to. She selflessly spent so much time in her community as well as in her personal life doing anything she could to make our world a more beautiful place.
