Obituary

Allan K. Skinner, 89, of East Branch, NY, died on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Ideal Senior Living Center, Endicott, NY. He was born on October 27, 1925 in Centerville, NY, the son of Louis and Vera (Lewis) Skinner. Allan joined the US Navy at age 17 and served during WWII. When he returned home, he married Joyce Owen and they resided most of their 66 years of marriage in East Branch, NY. Allan was employed by Cooney Bros, Hancock, for many years and then started his own logging business. Allan loved working in the woods along with his sons and other men from the area. He also owned and operated his own sawmill in Harvard, NY. Later in life, Allan enjoyed building cabins, excavation work, and trucking throughout Delaware Co. You could find Allan every Saturday night at the stock car races at Five Mile Point Speedway with his family. He also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, and loved to play the harmonica. He was an active member and trustee of the United Methodist Church in East Branch. Allan was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his wit, sense of humor, good nature, and his smile. He never met a stranger and all were welcome into Allan and Joyce's home for a cup of tea or a meal.Surviving are 4 sons, Allan Lynn and wife Teresa, Calvin Bradley and wife Patricia, Dean Owen and wife Susan, and Todd Wilson and wife Christine, 1 daughter, April S. Knox and husband Domenick Mancini, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother, Edgar Skinner, and 1 sister, Dixie Roucek, and many nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce in 2013, 1 brother, Leo, 2 sisters, Joyce and Louise, and a grandson, James Carpenter. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 6-8PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1PM at the East Branch United Methodist Church, East Branch. Burial will follow in the East Branch Cemetery. Donations can be made in Allan's memory to the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, 29 E. Main St., Hancock, NY 13783, to assist will funeral expenses.
