Anthony "Tony" Emmanuel Argiros, 79, died at his home in Hancock, NY, on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Tony was born on April 8, 1935 in New York City, an only son to Emmanuel "Mike" Argiros and Anna E. (Bonopart) Argiros. Tony moved with his wife, Betty, and their family to Hancock in 1976. They operated a Montgomery Wards Catalog Store on Front St. for a few years before starting what would become their life's work, The Family Foundation School. Tony and Betty ran The Family Foundation School until 1999, when they retired to South Carolina and then to Kissimmee, FL. He was a member of the Hancock Rotary, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Hancock. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Rita "Betty" Elizabeth (Eden) Argiros, 3 children, Rita Mischele Argiros (Sidney F. Parham), Ann Marie (Gerald) Janauer, and Emmanuel "Mike" Anthony Argiros (Cindy Ray), 11 grandchilren, Alexander (Shari) Carroll, Kevin Scutt, Karen (Donald) Rahl, Christine Scutt, Kathrine Scutt, Annmarie Argiros, Carmen (Christopher) Scott, and Anthony, John, Rachel, and Michael Argiros, and his great grandchildren, Donald, Kyle, David, Vayda, and Arya. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 5-8PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11AM at The Family Foundation School Chapel, 431 Chapel Hill Rd., Hancock, NY 13873. Father Stephen Morris will officiate and interment will follow in the French Woods Cemetery.Memorial donations can be made in Tony's memory to The Family Foundation Inc., (thefamilyfoundation.org), a nonprofit foundation committed to the educational needs of at-risk youth or to Saving Teens in Crisis Collaborative (savingteens.org), another non-profit organization that helps families that cannot afford programs for troubled teens.
