Obituary

Arthur L. Ballard, 60, of Hancock, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in Hancock. He was born on December 29, 1954 in Susquehanna, PA, the son of Harold Conklin and Minova Ballard. Art was married to Margaret "Peggy" Ballard for 27 years and she predeceased him on November 4, 2012. Art had a heart of gold and would help anyone. He loved country music, especially Johnny Cash. He was known to imitate Donald Duck and Macho Man, earning the nickname of "Macho Man". His newest nickname, since turning 60, was "OT", meaning "Old Timer". Art will be well missed. Surviving are 2 daughters, Rebecca and husband Ronald Schmitt, and Winifred Devault, and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Kenneth and Freddy Hallstead, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Wayman and Linda Terrell, 4 aunts, Gloria Howard, Ruth Ballard, Lillian Middleton, and Marion Parker, 3 uncles, Walt, Jimmy, and Dennis Ballard, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Art was predeceased by his mother, father, and step father, Fred Hallstead, and a sister, Mary Rivenburg. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 11-1 with a service following at 1 all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Donations can be made in Art's memory to the Emory United Methodist Church, 105 E. Main St., Hancock, NY 13783.
