Obituary

Arthur Edward Zegers III, Lake Como, PA, died Friday, July 26, 2024, at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA, of injuries sustained in an accident. He was 86.

He was born in Paterson, NJ, on December 29, 1937, a son to the late Arthur and Ida (Weidanz) Zegers. He grew up at Lake Hopatcong and graduated from Roxbury High School in Succasunna, NJ in 1955, relocating to northern Wayne County, PA, shortly after graduation.

He owned and operated Lakewood Garage for over three decades before selling the business in the 1990s. He then began a partnership with the late Ed Malinski, performing remodeling and roofing jobs as well as dam construction projects at area lakes. He later turned to stone cutting and logging. His most recent work was at Camp Lohikan in Lake Como, where he served as a sort of general factotum, offering guidance and building many stone walls and attractions for campers. He was a man of many talents. Put simply, there was nothing he could not do.

He married the former Sally Woodmansee in Honesdale, PA, on October 31, 1974. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary later this year.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Sally, are five children: Arthur IV (Amy), Cambridge, NY; Berton P. (Kelly) Mount Dora, FL; R. Ernest (Tanya), Bel Air, MD, Katherine DuBois, Equinunk, PA; Daniel E. (Adinah), Lake Como; one sister, Claire Heath, NJ; one brother, Charles, Scranton, PA; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ida Catherine Stalker.
