Obituary

Barbara J. (Quick) Teeple, 80, Equinunk, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, February 8, 2014, from Mercy Hospital, Scranton, PA.Born in Hancock, New York, on November 1, 1933, she was the second of "the Quick girls," the daughter of Clarence W. and Esther (Morse) Quick. "Bobbie" attended Hancock Central School and graduated with the class of 1951. She married Grant L. Teeple in Cadosia, NY, on April 4, 1953.Barbara spent her life in service to her Savior, her local church, her family, her students, and numerous organizations. She was the organist and pianist at Calvary Baptist Church in Cadosia for more than 60 years; she also taught Sunday School and served as treasurer and church clerk.She was secretary in the offices of Dr. James and Dr. Esther Fagan when they had their medical practice in Hancock and for many years was secretary for the Wayne County Sub District of Dairylea Cooperative. She was active in the Equinunk Historical Society, served for 40 years as a Manchester township auditor, and also worked at the Manchester Sewer and Water Office.She taught music at the Damascus Christian Academy from 1980 to 1997. Over her lifetime, she gave thousands of piano and violin lessons to a legion of students of all ages, and played for weddings and other occasions. She was also a member of the DelaWayne strings. She enjoyed her flowers, walking around the block, knitting, class luncheons, Syracuse basketball, the NCAA tournament, the adventures of Cub, the cat, and Tuesday night family dinners. She was a student of the Bible and lived her life to the Glory of God, no matter what the task of the moment. She knew Christ as her personal Savior, and was ready to leave this life when her call came.She is survived by her husband, Grant, daughter Cindy Rowe, and son Dale (Ella) Teeple, Equinunk; grandchildren, Melissa (Mitchell) Houghtaling, Rocky Point, NC; Justin Rowe, Equinunk; Theresa and Elizabeth Teeple, Greenville, SC; and William Teeple, Williamsport, Pa.; great grandchildren Brianna, Caitlyn, Ashley, and Emily Houghtaling, Rocky Point, NC; sister Kathryn (Leslie) Kellam, Starlight; brother Clarence Lewis, Johnson City, NY; sister in law Sylvia (Teeple) Gutowski, Endicott, NY; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.Funeral services will be held on Thursday , Feb. 13 , 2014, at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock, NY, at 1 PM with visiting hours from 11 AM until time of service. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Equinunk, at a later time.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 930 Cadosia Road, Hancock, NY 13783, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
