Obituary

Carol DaBrescia Walker of Hancock, NY, danced her way into the heavens on February 13, 2022. As a free-spirited teenager, Carol ran away to attend the Woodstock Music Festival; she strived to live a life which embodied the magical, generous, and loving spirit of the renowned festival ever since. Carol was born on April 17th, 1955 and raised in Hancock by her loving parents Art and Helen DaBrescia. They, along with sister Nancy, spent summers at their cottage at nearby Somerset Lake. Carol, a.k.a. KK, graduated from Hancock Central School in 1973. She also attended Columbia-Green Community College and majored in psychology. Among her many ventures in life, Carol owned and operated the Sun Brite Carwash in Newark, New Jersey with her husband Peter Mele before moving back to the Hancock area to raise their daughter Danielle. There, they also owned and operated the Sears Catalogue Store. From the mid 90s to 2000, Carol created and ran a local youth group called "Yes We Can" that sought to improve the community and provide young people with opportunities to socialize. The group raised funds primarily through collecting bottles and cans to support community events for youth and to contribute to other local groups such as the Hancock Central School theatre program, the library, the PTO, and the residents at the Senior Apartments. Carol helped care for both her parents at the end of their lives. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Danielle Mele Taylor of Montclair, New Jersey and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, in particular Toni Gail Sandell of California. She also leaves behind her dear friend Frost Decker, close friends Debbie Morgan, Jesse Kilian, and Buddy Coe who cared for her beautifully in her final months, and several other friends from all walks of life. According to Carols wishes, her ashes are to be distributed among friends and loved ones and are to be scattered by them in places all around the world that are special and sacred them, so that Carol may also be there with them. Carol has also been memorialized in a video made this past year by the Merry Pranksters at Yasgurs Farm of the original Woodstock Festival site. Carol asked that any donations in her name be made to the Duane Dubois Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hancock Central School. Arrangements by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.
