Catherine (Claus) VanMater passed away suddenly on November 2, 2024, leaving an unfillable void in our lives. Cathy was born April 29, 1954 on Long Island, in Uniondale, New York, daughter of Charles and Frances Claus.

Cathy met Jerrie Van Mater in East Branch, New York. They later married and resided in that same small town. They then moved to Hancock, NY, where Cathy became a beacon of light and hope in the community. Cathy joined the parish of Saint Paul the Apostle where she was the organist for the last 20 years. Cathy also had an amazing passion for her job as a real estate agent at Keller Williams Realty in Hancock. Her love, kindness and warmth touched countless hearts.

Cathy and Jerrie loved to spend vacations in their motorhome, traveling to different locations. Cathy was an avid animal lover and a good mommy to her fur babies.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Jerrie; her son Jason Soesman and his wife, Melissa; beloved grandmother of James, Nicholas and Thomas Soesman. She was stepmom to Steven and Jennifer VanMater and grandmother their children, Brandon and Kyle. She's also survived by her siblings, Alicia, David, Joan, Carol, Paul and John Claus, and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel on Thursday November 7, 2024 from 2-4 & 7-9. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 8 at 10:30 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 330 W. Main St. Hancock, NY. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Hancock, NY.

We will deeply miss her presence, guidance and unwavering support.

Rest in peace dear Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt. Your memory and legacy will forever be in our hearts.
