David Rees Watkins, 73, of Starrucca, PA, passed away on November 30, 2020, peacefully at home after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his caring family. David was born on November 9, 1947, in Scranton, PA, to J. Haydn and Dorothy Blewett Watkins. David was a 1965 graduate of Scranton Tech High School. After graduation he moved to New Jersey for three years where he was an apprentice machinist that started his 55-year career as a highly talented and gifted tool and die maker. His astounding work ethic was evident as he worked tirelessly as the self employed owner of Rees Precision Machining. David also proudly served in the US Naval Reserve.
He shared 54 years of marriage with the love of his life, Linda Noble Watkins. They had four children, David Rees Watkins Jr. (Kelly), Danny Watkins (Julie), Becky Arnold (Steve) and Amy Shellhamer (Scott). They also had 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his brother Joseph and survived by sister Esther Watkins Fray and brother Ezra Watkins.
David had a love for making music, but his love for the Lord was his real passion. He spent over 40 years ministering through his gospel music all over the northeast and performed countless funerals, weddings and concerts. He touched countless people throughout his ministry being an incredible piano player and gospel singer.
Daves favorite past time was riding his Harley Davidson down Route 97 through the Hawks Nest. He also enjoyed hunting and his desire to help people was endless.
A private graveside memorial service will be held in the spring 2021.
