Donald "Dusty" Herbert Rhodes Jr, 59, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He is predeceased by his father Donald H. Rhodes Sr. and his brother Brian Rhodes. He is survived by his wife Lucy, his sons Donald Rhodes III and Christopher (Jessica Soulier) Rhodes, his stepchildren Lyndsay (Kiel) Sullivan, Anna (Haz) Raheem and David VanDerbeck, as well as 3 grandchildren Kaliyah, Harith, and Corey. Dusty is also survived by his mother, Viola Rhodes, and siblings, Brenda (Walter) Terry, and David Rhodes, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Dusty always had a protecting nature. He bravely served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army which included four tours of duty overseas. Dusty looked back on his time in the Armed Forces fondly and enjoyed catching up with old army buddies over the years. He was later employed as a Detective Sergeant on the Deposit Police Force for 19 years and as an officer for Broome Security for 10 years. Dusty enjoyed collecting World War II memorabilia, was a fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame Football and enjoyed attending dog shows with his two Australian Shepherds Cassie and Haley. Family was everything to Dusty. He loved spending time with his children, especially attending ball games, Sunday dinners at his Mother's house, and playing with his grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Memorial 3 at Binghamton General Hospital for their special care during Dusty's final days.A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 23rd, 2015 at 10:30AM at St. Paul's Church, 346 W. Main St., Hancock, NY. The family will receive friends at Henderson- Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, 29 E. Main St., Hancock, NY, on Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 from 4-7 PM.
