Earl O. Hempstead, 91, of Starlight, PA, died on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA, after a short illnesss. He was born at home in Lake Como, PA, on April 7, 1925, the son of Leonard and Mabel (Owens) Hempstead. Earl married Sadie Mae Brown on May 5, 1946 and she predeceased him on December 26, 1998. Earl was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Shehawken United Methodist Church, Shehawken, PA. He was a dairy farmer, building contractor, and retired as dealer for Northern Products Log Homes. In Earl's spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a talented woodworker. Surviving are 3 children, Gary Hempstead, Joanne (Jim) Hickam, and Lenny (Katarina) Hempstead, 3 grandchildren, Marc (Debbie Vesely) Hempstead, Todd (Ellen) Hickam, and Bryan (Thomi) Hickam, and 5 great grandchildren, Skylar, Sawyer, Gavin, Sadie, and Caleb. Earl is also survived by 1 brother, Everett Hempstead, 1 sister, Bernice (Emory) Doyle, Rich (Kathy) Harty, and special friend, Nita Welker. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Willard and Gerow Hempstead. Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 6-7:30PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11AM at the Shehawken United Methodist Church, Shehawken, PA. Interment will follow in Lake Como Cemetery, Lake Como, PA.
