Earl J. Schuman, 87, of Equinunk, PA, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at home. He was born on November 25, 1926 in Abrahamsville, PA, the son of John and Edna (Toms) Schuman. Earl married Helen Gehrig on November 22, 1952. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956 in the European Theatre. Earl worked at Russ Compton Lumber Mill in Hancock for 20 years and retired after 20 years at Case Tire Service in Honesdale, PA. In his retirement, he drove school bus for John Hunt for several years. He was a Fireman for over 50 years for the Equinunk Fire Co., serving many positions, including Chief. Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Helen, 1 brother, Orvis, 2 sisters, Myrtle Appel and Katherine Schuman, several nieces and nephews, and 1 Goddaughter, Amy Gilson. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Everett and Fred Schuman. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 7-9 at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock, NY. There will be a funeral service on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11AM, also at the funeral home.
