Edgar L. Skinner Sr., 93, of Hancock, died on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, NY. Edgar was born on July 31, 1922 in East Branch, the son of Louis and Vera (Lewis) Skinner. Edgar joined the Army in December of 1944, serving in the Southwest Pacific Theatre Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. Edgar used his mechanical skills upon return to civilian life, along with cutting stone and logging with his brothers and Uncle Rex Lewis. He began employment with the Town of Hancock in the mid 1950's later rising to the position of the Town of Hancock Highway Superintendent. Edgar loved antique cars, especially his 1929 Ford truck, and reminiscing about all things mechanical and most things East Branch, Hancock, and Fishs Eddy. He never failed to see the good in people despite battling macular degeneration for many years. He was pleased beyond words with the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, arranged by Beth Horton and her help during that trip. His knowledge of the roads and "almost" roads in the Town of Hancock was a treasure shared with all he came in contact. Surviving are his wife Regina (Branning) Skinner, son, Edgar Jr. and wife Claire, sister, Dixie and husband Fred Roucek, 10 grandchildren, Bill and Shawn Kauffman, Christie LaTourette, Mark and Eric Skinner, Candy VanLoan, Jay Kelly, and Teal, Beth, and Scott Palmer, several great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Edgar is also survived by 2 stepsons, Patrick and Christopher Palmer, son-in-law, Bill Kauffman, 4 sister-in-laws, Kathleen and husband Gerald DaBrescia, Barbara Lutz, Eileen and husband Javiar Molina, and Teresa and husband Robert Jenson, 2 brother in laws, Peter and Robert Branning, and many loving nieces and nephews. Edgar was predeceased by his first wife, Lorna, 2 daughters, Judy Smith and Linda Kauffman, 2 sisters, Louise Lombardi and Joyce DuMond, and 2 brothers, Leo and Allan Skinner. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5-8PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11AM, also at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Partridge Island Cemetery, Fishs Eddy, NY.
