Obituary

Edna Crawson left this earthly realm to join loved ones in heaven on August 12, 2021. She was born in Roscoe, February 12, 1933, to Bert and Gertrude (Bowers) Cox. In 1954 she married Malcolm Crawson, and lived on Goulds Mountain since then. All predeceased her, as well as her brothers, Bert (Elaine) Cox, Paul (Betty) Cox, Lester Quick, and her son Bill Katalinas., and her little Snoopy. She is survived by her children: Lucy; Mackie (Tracy); Sue (Dan) & Tim (Kelly), as well as numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins, and her dog Trixie. Edna and Mac were "people people," well known and well loved by young and old, and all enjoyed spending time with them. She was fondly known as Mom, Nana, My Nana and Aunt Bell Bell by family. She loved unconditionally, selflessly and sacrificially. No matter the need, she would help, and responded many times in the night to calls for help. Friends quickly became family. She had a particular fondness for babies, and they were in her arms first when visiting. She had a sixth sense and knew when women were pregnant, sometimes before they did. When hospitalized staff found reasons to go to her room for little breaks, because she was kind and loving. She was also shrewd and knew when someone was trying to put something over on her, and had no problem putting them in their place. A favorite expression was, "Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe." She worked hard her entire life as a housewife and haying, gardening, preserving, raising three generations of children, and in several occupations. She worked for many years as a Bartender, but found her true calling as a Home Health Aide, caring for countless clients for LARC and Robinwood. She was knowledgeable, empathetic, compassionate, tender and loving, and often added extra care, such as small gifts, favorite treats, or a homemade meal to make her clients feel loved and special. Many requested her as caregiver. In her early eighties she mowed lawns for numerous neighbors, which she loved. Recently she also worked cleaning apartments. She was never without a list of "things to do," had unlimited energy and did not know how to rest. She was an M.D. (Mountain Doctor), whose services were sought by many. She nursed to health a wide range of people and animals on the mountain and in Rock Valley with her skills, wisdom and many natural remedies. Mac fondly called for "The Vet." She earned an unofficial title of Life Coach as well. Hundreds of all ages sought her advice and treasured her wisdom on life in areas such as challenges, raising children or animals, preparing or preserving food, and many other topics. She always had time to talk, the coffee pot was always on and a cookie or treat was nearby as she shared advice with visitors. Phone calls often lasted an hour or more. She was well known for her cooking skills, and could turn a few simple ingredients into a buffet for many. There was always room for one more at her table, and always enough food to go around. Typical Holiday dinners might include 10 to 60 or more, sometimes in shifts, all prepared by Nana. A common phrase was, "What am I missing?" as many times a prepared dish was forgotten in the oven, microwave or fridge. All who visited were fed until they could eat no more, and most left with leftovers and care packages, "so they didnt have to cook later." Each ones favorite food somehow appeared, with extra to take home. If you left her table hungry, it was your own fault. Mom loved nature and was always thrilled with the changing seasons, or watching Deer or Turkeys in the yard, especially little ones, and all types of birds on the feeders. She had a special love for Hummingbirds, Chickadees and Cardinals. Her flowers were a source of pride, and as visitors left, she would walk with them and tell them what each one was and where it came from. She particularly loved hanging laundry in the fresh country air and often said, "If I win the lottery Im going to pay someone to hang my sheets on the line every day!" She also loved to read and enjoyed Classic Country and Western music. As a younger woman, many folks loved to hear her sing. Her biggest love in life was her family. She gave all she had and then gave a little bit more, taking care of everyone but herself. She wasnt very big, but she was fierce and would stand up to anyone, no matter their size, if they threatened her family in any way. She was loyal and supportive and her love ran deep. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out. The hole left in many hearts and lives is enormous. Her family wants to offer a very special thanks to all who knew and loved and cared for Mom and Our Nana. May you know we are deeply grateful for all the love and friendships throughout her long life. May her Spirit live on in us, as we share selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love, which is the very best legacy we can offer in honor of her life.
