Eleanor Hempstead, 97, of Poyntelle, PA, died on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA, after a short illness. She was born on February 22, 1922 in Poyntelle, PA, the daughter of Irvin and Pearl Doyle. Eleanor married Gerow D. Hempstead on June 14, 1941 in Orson, PA, and he predeceased her on September 10, 2006. She was a member of the Lake Como United Methodist Church for over 70 years and she was also a Rebekah for over 70 years. Eleanor retired from the USPS as a postal clerk and loved to golf. Surviving are 2 children, David G., and Elizabeth E. Hempstead-Bouchoux (Wayne), 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christopher, and Michael Hempstead, Linda Wojcieson, and Donna Wahilia, and 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friend, Diane Popovich and honorary daughter, Toni Nyberg. Eleanor was predeceased by 5 siblings Kenneth, Walter, Winnie, Donald, and Gaylord. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 10AM-12PM with a funeral service held at 12PM all at the Lake Como United Methodist Church, Lake Como, PA.
