Elizabeth L. (Betty) Gales, 96, passed away July 2, 2014. She was born in Stilesville, NY. She graduated from Nurse's Training at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY in 1938. During WWII, she taught Home Nursing for the Red Cross. Betty worked as a nurse at Read Memorial Hospital Hancock for 20 years. In 1940, she married Henry F. Gales. They founded and co-owned the Maple Lounge in Starlight, PA until 1962. Betty was a Communicant of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Hancock where she served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was predeceased by her Husband Henry in 1989; an infant Son Donald, Son Gerald H. in 2002; Brothers Clarence and Clifford Wakeman. Surviving are her grandson, Paul D. (Vicki) Gales of Cape Coral, FL; a sister, Marion I. Foreman of Mansfield, PA; niece, Claire Foreman of Mansfield, PA, as well as several other nieces & nephews. Also a special friend, Ted Darling. Her family would like to thank Lori, Peachy, and Christine of LaValley's Loving Care Home for the great care they gave her, and Marie Gales for all of her help. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8th, from 4 to 6 PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel 29 E. Main St. Hancock, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Church, with interment at St. Paul's Cemetery, Hancock. A luncheon will follow at the church hall.
