Obituary

Everett C. Rhinebeck Sr., 79, of Hancock, NY, passed away August 10, 2015 from various medical conditions. He was born in Kelsey, NY, the son of Charles and Genavie Rhinebeck on August 24, 1935. After graduating from Hancock Central School in 1955, he entered the Army with two other neighbors under the Buddy Program. During their three years of service in the Army they were stationed in close proximity. Eventually, the Cuban Missile Crisis brought them together again. Everett then joined the Air Force, two years later, and served until a disability prevented him from working this regular job in the service. Later, he worked at Celotex Corp. in Deposit until a flare up of his old injury caused him to become totally disabled.As a resident of the Town of Tompkins, Everett was very involved in and held many positions for the town, such as, Councilman, Planning Board Chairman, and Republican Party Chairman. Among his other activities, he was co-manager of the Delaware Riflelets, a fifty year member of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Rhinebeck (Jackson), 5 children, Mildred Raggi and husband Thomas, Lorrie Rhinebeck, Everett C. Jr. and significant other Amber Jones, Tammy Hitte, and Carolyn Rhinebeck and significant other, Russell Blakeslee, 14 grandchildren, Tara Salvato, Christina Hitte, Ashley and Thomas Raggi, Russell Blakeslee, Jessica Sheffield, Joshua, Jocelyn, and Anthony Rhinebeck, Robert Croci, Allen and Shirlee Rhinebeck, Joseph Pond, and Anthony Harm, and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Melvin Rhinebeck and wife Kay, daughter in law, Tracy Rhinebeck, best friend, Paul Bartholomew, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Everett was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Genavie, 2 sisters, Helen Houck and Claire Greiner, 2 brothers, Harold and John Rhinebeck, a granddaughter, Thereasa Raggi, and a great grandson, X'savior Wright.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 from 5-7 at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 12PM in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, with Military Honors.
