Francis John "Frank" Brown Jr., age 81, and longtime resident of French Woods, NY passed away on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021 in the Veterans Affairs Hospital of Palm Beach, Florida. Frank was born on December 14th, 1939, in Staten Island, NY, to Francis J Brown Sr. and Ruth Lawson Brown. Growing up, he went to school in Staten Island and spent many of his summers in Hancock, NY, joining the Navy after completing high school. After an honorable discharge, he joined the New York City Police Department, spending 21 years as an officer with a record of distinguished service, receiving several commendations including Patrolman of the Year. While an officer, he also earned his degree from the College of Staten Island. He married Patricia Ann Grogan in June 1975 on Staten Island, raising two boys through 45 years of marriage. After retiring from the NYPD, he and his family moved to Hancock, NY, and he became an extremely active member of the community. From serving on the Hancock Central School Board, to ushering at St. Pauls Catholic Church, he always looked for ways to contribute. He also coached his sons Little League teams, participated on the Town Planning Board and Board of Assessment Review, served as the Treasurer of the Fire District, and was a member of the American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, spotting wildlife from the porch of his house in French Woods, giving tractor rides to his grandchildren, and sipping a cold Yuengling with his friends. Frank is survived by his wife Patricia, son Francis and wife Erin, son Christopher and wife Heidi, sisters Lorraine and Margaret, brother John and wife Palma, close friends and in-laws James, Jackie, and Charles Grogan, five grandchildren and several nieces. A memorial mass will be held in the early summer at St. Pauls Catholic Church, followed by a service at St. Francis De Sales Cemetery in French Woods.
