Obituary

Frederick Martin Polomcean passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.. He was born on May 30, 1946, to George Sr. and Dorothy (Gorshack) Polomcean of Harvard, NY. Fred was a graduate of Downsville Central School, and he proudly served in the United States Air Force and National Guard. He had fond memories of his military service, especially time he spent while stationed in Alaska.

Fred was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a hard worker and worked for Becton Dickinson (Bard Parker) for 29+ years. In his retirement, he continued to keep himself busy working for the Green Thumb Program. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman. He passed on the love of fishing and taught that skill to his children, grandchildren, and many other children in his life. Some of their greatest memories surrounded fishing trips or just listening to their Dad and Poppa tell his fishing tales. Fred loved to play chess and taught his children and grandchildren to play. He enjoyed showing everyone card tricks and playing a good card game of blackjack. Fred was always up for playing in the yard with his grandchildren and loved to be silly and make them laugh.

Fred is survived by his wife Joan Towner Polomcean, and his three loving children, daughter Tracey & Rodney Geer, daughter Tammi & Shawn, and son Aaron & Colleen. Grandchildren Jessica (Dan) Leonard, Christopher (Rebecca) Wadeson, Andrea Wadeson, Austin, Kyle and Kaitlyn Polomcean, Keith (Shania) Geer, Jordan (John) Martin, David and Matthew Karcher. Great-grandchildren, Luna Polomcean, Drew Leonard, Hunter and Theo Geer, Ceclia, Emerson and Josephine Martin, and honorary grandchildren Logan, Owen and Maeleigh Eberlein. Siblings Maryann, Rosemary, Cindy, Darlene, Chuck. Laurie, Ron, Don and Tom; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, brothers George Sr., John and Jim Polomcean.

Fred's family would like to thank his close friends for their hospital visits, rides to therapy and calls, especially in his final days. They would like to thank his hospice team, particularly Beth.

Fred's wishes were for cremation and a celebration of life at a later time.

Donations can be made in Fred's memory to the Hancock Rescue Squad or Helios Care, 297 River St. Service Rd. Oneonta, NY 13820.
