Gerald H. Leonard, 92, of Hancock, NY, died on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at home after a long illness. He was born on January 31, 1929 in Hancock, NY, the son of Charles and Emelia (Hanstine) Leonard. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Hancock and spent 57 years as the local barber in town. He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church and active in the church choir for many years. In his earlier years he was a school bus driver and worked for the Hancock Police Department. Jerry was also a member of the Hancock Fire Department and the Masonic Lodge of Hancock # 552 F. & A.M. for 55 years. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He enjoyed fishing, canoeing, and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of over 51 years, Vivian; 4 children: Thomas (Claire) Leonard, Steven Leonard, Barbara Leonard, and Pam (Bob) Rice; 4 grandchildren: Josh (Kristen) Rice, Liz Johnson, Sierra (Robert) Aube, and Bryan Leonard; and 4 great grandchildren: Braidynn, Braylee, Maddy, and Lincoln. He is also survived by 2 nephews, Mark and Scott Leonard. Jerry was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Leonard. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 1PM-4PM at the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock. Calling hours will also be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 from 11AM-1PM with a funeral service following at 1PM, also at the church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
