Obituary

Gwendolyn Scoville, 97, of Hancock, died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Roscoe Regional Rehab, Roscoe, NY. She was born on April 15, 1916 in Cadosia, NY, the daughter of Charles A. and Ruth I. (Hartz) Hunter. Gwen graduated from Hancock Central School in 1935 and then graduated as an LPN from University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. She married Clairmont Scoville on April 11, 1939 in Ottisville, NY, and he predeceased her on January 26, 1985. Gwen worked at the Hancock Community Hospital and then retired from Read Memorial Hospital, Hancock, in 1977. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hancock, and a member and past president of the Rebekah Lodge, also in Hancock. She volunteered many times for the Red Cross Blood Donations at Father Rausch Hall. Gwen loved playing cards and crossword puzzles. Surviving are 2 grandchildren, Daniel Scoville Jr., and Jill Williams, 5 great grandchildren, Seth, Ivy, Chesnee, Bentlee, and Ty, and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kim Scoville, who cared for Gwen for many years. She was predeceased by 2 sons, Daniel Scoville, and Charles Andy Scoville, 3 sisters, Aleatha Gross, Florence Crawford, and Iris Clarke, and 1 brother, William Hunter. There will be 1 hour for visitation on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 11-12 with a service following at 12 all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Burial will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock. Memorial donations can be made in Gwens memory to the Hancock Fire Auxiliary, 25 Valley View, Hancock, NY 13783.
