Obituary

Jennie Vivian Peckham 5/30/1920 9/16/2018 Jennie passed peacefully early Sunday morning with caretakers by her side, holding her hand and playing some of the music she loved. She was the daughter of Charles Webb and Florence Walley Webb from Rock Royal, Town of Tompkins, NY. She grew up on a farm and had many happy memories from her childhood. Jennie was a farm wife for many years, working side by side with her husband, Harlan. She was a member of the Emory Methodist Church in Hancock. For many years she was a 4H leader of the Sands Creek Homemakers. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Home Bureau and the ladies Pinochle Club. She achieved a lifelong dream of getting her high school GED which she did in her early 50s. She took piano lessons in middle age and taught some of the local girls. She became a snowbird in the mid 1970s and enjoyed many years in Bradenton FL. She always had a smile for everyone and never uttered a cross word. She loved to share stories with everyone she met. She loved to dance and in later life, she learned ballroom dancing along with her longtime friend Matilda Offnick. Jennie competed at dancing conventions in Florida and won five trophies. She also loved to sing many of the old songs she remembered from her early years. In her last days, she serenaded the nurses and aides at the Delhi Rehab and Nursing Center where she received wonderful care. Surviving are daughters, Vera Niles of Hancock NY and Bradenton FL, Shirley Niles of Smyrna NY, son-in-law Paul Bartholomew (Sandra); sisters Hilda Ewain of East Branch and Dorothy Brizzee of Mormon Hollow Road, Walton; grandchildren Laurie Zimmerman of Endicott NY, Dawn Margarum (Rick) of Bainbridge NY, David Niles (Faye) of Damascus PA, Debra Sue Bartholomew of Hancock NY, Robert Beckwith of Unadilla NY, Paul Bartholomew Jr. (Dawn) of Sebastian FL, step grandsons Shawn Niles of Sherburne NY and James Niles of Smyrna NY. She is also survived by great grandchildren Matthew, Krista, Ricky, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, Bradley, Stephen and step great grandchildren Miranda, Savanna, Avery, Mike and Kevin. She leaves great great grandchildren Andrew, Brody, Bella Rose, Gavin, Keith, Kyle, Harper and step great great grandchildren Keishelle, Jori, Katie, Jack and Tyler. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband Harlan Peckham, long time companion Bill Blank; daughter Barbara Bartholomew, brother Leroy Webb and sister-in-law Frances Webb, brothers-in-law Stanley Ewain and Frank Brizzee, sons-in law Andy Niles and Roger Niles, grandson-in-law Bob Zimmerman and great grandson Justin Niles. Services will be held on Saturday, September 22, at Henderson Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, 29 East Main Street, Hancock NY 13843. Viewing will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. Memorial contributions can be made to the Emory Methodist Church, 105 East Main Street, Hancock NY 13783.
