John Anthony Araneo of Hancock, NY, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed peacefully early morning Sunday, November 4, 2018, at his home after a brief battle with cancer.
John lived a rich and diverse life, having worked as a schoolteacher, a U.S. Marshall, and a firewood supplier. John was a scholarship football player during the 1960s, and went on to coach football at Adelphi University and Northport High School.
Beloved husband of Christine Buchanan, he was a proud and loving father of three children: Matthew Araneo of Merrick, NY, John Araneo of Weehawken, NJ, and Jennifer Johnson of Deposit, NY. John shared his loving heart with seven grandchildren: Jack, Marguerite, Matthew, Aidan, Dylan, Michael, and Ramsey. John is also survived by his brothers Andy and Frank and his sister Therese.
Known for a mischievous gleam in his eye and a funny story to share, he was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, November 8, from 5 pm to 8 pm, with funeral services on Friday at 2 pm, both at Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel in Hancock, NY.
Donations to "Autism Speaks" may be made in memory of John, and would be in line with his sincere wishes.
