John Raymond Mason, 55, of Vine Grove, KY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 14, 2021.
John was born November 1, 1965 in Honesdale, PA, the youngest son of Sonia C. (Shlanta) Mason and Lyman E. Mason.
John is survived by his two children Sonia J. Mason and Michael Z. Mason; his mother, Sonia Mason; five siblings, Kenneth Mason, Janet Mason, Michael Mason, William Mason and Cynthia Mason.
John was raised in Lakewood, PA and graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1983. Besides hunting and trapping, John worked on a local dairy farm, was a Catholic Youth Leader for the Lake Como Catholic church, and volunteered with the Lakewood Fire Department.
Later, John lived in Amherst, MA working as a farmhand at a local nursery and farm. In 1991, John enlisted with the PA Army National Guard Alpha Company 1, 109 Infantry and served active duty in Bosnia in 2002.
John met Mary-Beth (Clarke) Mason in 1993 and they married in 1997 settling in Bethel, CT to raise their family. John worked as a carpenter in Fairfield County while pursuing his many interests of gardening, canning, camping, fishing, hunting, and mushroom picking. John also spent many hours volunteering to help fellow veterans through the local American Legion. In 2014 John divorced and relocated to Vine Grove, KY to live with his sister Janet and his mother.
John had a generous spirit and woke every day looking to be productive. John was a spiritual man, in tune with nature, spending as much time as possible outdoors. He loved walking or working in the garden. However, he loved being with his family best of all. John will always be remembered for his cheerful disposition and will be missed by all who knew him.
A service, with military honors, was held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at the Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove, KY. John was buried in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
