Obituary

Joyce Peters Bisbee, 87, of Hancock, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Willow Point Nursing Home, Vestal, NY. Joyce was born on June 11, 1933, the daughter of Wilson Knighton and Maude (Realy) Peters. She married James "Jack" Conrad Bisbee on January 1, 1954 and they lived and raised their family in Hancock, NY. Joyce graduated from Hancock Central School with the class of 1952. During her teens years, she worked at Scotts Oquaga Lake Resort and was crowned Miss Oquaga Lake. Once married, she devoted her attention to raising her four children and being a homemaker. One of her greatest joys was supporting her children in all their many sports and community activities. She served as a Cub Scout Den Leader and was always happy to volunteer in any way. Joyce was a lifelong member of the Emory United Methodist Church. She and Jack were avid golfers and she played in a Hancock Golf Course Ladies League. They enjoyed traveling and had memorable trips to the Bahamas, New Zealand, and Hawaii with special friends. One of her most favorite trips of all was going out to Peas Eddy to spend time on the river and at the Peters farmhouse with children and grandchildren. Joyces true passion was taking pictures, especially of family and friends. She loved maintaining her picture albums and sharing them to allow others to relive happy memories. After her husband passed away, Joyce became a "snowbird" and would travel to Florida to stay with her daughter, Jackie, and her family where she made many more close friends, especially through her grandchildren and their friends. She became "family" to that many more and loved being involved with all their joyous milestone events and celebrations. She always looked forward to returning north for her warmer seasons with family and friends in Hancock. Everywhere she went she was accompanied by her greatest companion, her beloved King Charles Cavalier, Buddy. Surviving are four children, Craig Bisbee, Hancock, NY, John (Renee) Bisbee, Yakima, WA, Joanne Kay, Indiana, PA, and Jackie (Luke) Little, Valrico, FL; four grandchildren, Ben Kay, Aimee Kay, Mallory (Zach) Patterson, and Brad Little; and two great grandchildren, Sloan Olson and Palmer Patterson. Joyce is further survived by her brother, Van Peters and his wife, Beverly, her sister-in-law, Miriam Peters, her brother-in-law, William Bisbee, and several close nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jack, and six siblings, Adelaide Potter, Virginia Sullivan, Edith Hall, Louise Peters, Edward Peters, and Knighton Peters. A celebration of Joyces life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in Joyces memory to the Town of Hancock Ambulance, P.O. Box 733, Hancock, NY, 13783. Arrangements by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.
