UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION:A funeral service for Joyce will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:30AM. There will be a visitation from 10AM until the service, all to be held at the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock. Final resting place will be alongside her husband, Rodney, at the Riverview Cemetery in Hancock. Joyce Thomas, 82, peacefully passed away on September 9, 2015, at her daughter's home in Grahamsville, NY. She was born on October 31, 1932 in Granton, NY, to June and Letha Schriver. In 1954, she married Rodney Harrison Thomas and together they raised their daughters in Hancock, NY. Joyce was predeceased by Rodney in 1995. Joyce is survived by daughter Marilyn and husband COL (ret) Peter Farrell of Martinez, GA, and daughter Phyllis and husband David Moore of Grahamsville, NY. Grammie and Pop-Pop will never be forgotten by their four grandchildren and spouses: Meghan and Andrew Matteson, Adam and Rebecca Moore, Emily and Dustin Braud, and Katelin and Rodrigo Nogueira. Joyce's six great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. Eamon and Liam Matteson; Gehrig, Audrey and Alice Moore; and Harrison Braud will miss "Grammie" dearly. She also is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Sheila Schriver, brother-in-law Robert Thomas, and sisters-in-law Sherry and Joann Thomas, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joyce also leaves many friends, especially the ladies of her Hancock Bible Study Group, who supported her to the end. Joyce was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hancock and, in more recent years, in Grahamsville, and actively involved in community groups for many years, the most recent being the Hancock Community Educational Foundation which was very dear to her heart. A funeral service for Joyce will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 11:30AM. There will be a visitation from 10AM until the service, all to be held at the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock. Final resting place will be alongside her husband, Rodney, at the Riverview Cemetery in Hancock. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joyce's name to the Hancock Community Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 819, Hancock, NY, 13783, or to the Grahamsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 86, NY, 12740.
