Kurt August Mueller, age 85, died peacefully Tuesday 17 January 2023.
He was born to Kurt and Robertine Mueller in 1937 in Chatham, NJ. Kurt had the wisdom to marry Luitgard Mayer in 1959 in New Jersey. Kurt and Gardie had 3 children, Paul (Susan), Philip (Rebecca) and Veronica (Robert Rooks). He was predeceased by his brother Paul and is survived by a number of his family, including Sisters Karen Cruser and Judy Snavely.
Kurt worked in New York City for much of his career, but escaped to Equinunk, PA at every opportunity. One of his greatest prevailing legacies is the red house on the river, a former hunting cabin with no heat or water that Kurt reimagined with his wife and family into the beloved family retreat that stands today.
Kurt found great joy in all things outdoors-- as a boy he hunted, fished and trapped in what is now known as the Great Swamp. Later in life, Grandpa Opa Kurt enjoyed hunting and fishing in northeast Pennsylvania, taking joy in the bounty of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River and passing his love of the outdoors on to many of his family members. The love of his community extended beyond recreation, however, and Kurt invested much of his time in Equinunk and the surrounding areas. His efforts date back to the early 1970s and his participation in the Equinunk Lordville Upper Delaware River Association; and more recently through his many years of service as the Chairman of the Buckingham Township Supervisors. Kurt also had a perpetual desire to improve community properties to give others the chance to enjoy Equinunk as much as he did. Whether known as Chairman, landlord, or neighbor, he will be remembered by many within the community as a beloved friend.
Although he had little use for college educations, he was devoted to lifelong learning as demonstrated by his participation in a Crypto currency seminar on line in the past year. Whatever he was interested in caused him to be enthusiastically zealous in his pursuit of the topic.
Kurt will be continually loved by his large family of 10 grandchildren Jackie, Christina, Alex, Kami, Lexi, Rachel, Claire, Elliott, Tori, and Liza; 7 great-grandchildren Isabella, Jane, Benjamin, August, Finn, Harper, Alfie plus one on the way! living throughout the United States. He enjoyed every opportunity for the family to get together, although sometimes that was hidden behind his occasionally gruff exterior. His grandchildren remember him as a steadfast patriarch who was always willing to offer advice, regale them with stories, and able to maintain his daily nap.
Say not in grief he is no more but in thankfulness that he was.
