Larry passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon in the log home he and friends built 42 years ago. He loved being a "Lordvillian", living in the middle of nowhere with his wife of 41 years, Katt and his 4 dogs. He was such an avid outdoorsman, his friends often compared him to Grizzly Adams. You could find him in a boat fishing for hours in warm weather, and drilling through the ice and sitting by a hole waiting for a bite on some of the coldest days, never complaining, just happy to be outdoors.
Its no wonder when it came time to decide on the name of a band for playing music at the local bars and such, that it was decided that The Gone Fishin Band was appropriate. Although he was a housepainter by trade (to pay the bills), his passion was playing guitar and banjo and singing to the enjoyment of all. He never hesitated to donate his gift for benefits anytime he could. He shared at morning programs at school and his band played at the Town Square in the middle of a lightning storm to help the Education Foundation. Larry mentored many budding performers. He and Katt were the music for Cowboy Church in Pine Mill for years.
Larry also enjoyed his role as Santa Claus for many years in Long Eddy and Pine Mill. He coached Little League for a time in Sullivan County. He was a generous and talented man, and his wonderful voice and charm will be missed more than words can say. His wish was to be cremated, and when the weather is right, there will be a musical celebration on the stage he and his wife built on their property in Lordville. May the valley reverberate with joy in his memory.
