Laurel A. Gehrig, 50, of Starlight, PA, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was born on September 11, 1971 in Hancock, NY, the daughter of George A. and Jane I. (Morgan) Gehrig. Laurel graduated from Hancock Central School and earned her Bachelors Degree from Penn State University. She worked at KidsPeace for several years and for the last 14+ years, she worked for Wayne County MHMR, helping children with behavioral and mental health needs. She enjoyed flowers and birds and she loved to travel and especially loved her kitties. Surviving are her companion of over 20 years, Brad Shaffer; mother, Jane; brother, Craig and wife Laura; 2 aunts, Helen Schuman and Ruth Price; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her father and her maternal and paternal grandparents. There will be 1 hour for visitation on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 11AM-12PM with a memorial service following at 12PM all at Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Interment will be at a later date in Stockport Cemetery. Donations may be made in Laurels memory to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Dr., Honesdale, PA 18431.
