Lawrence E. "Shorty" Somers, 78, of Hancock, NY, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY. He was born in Hancock, NY, the son of Lawrence I. and Minnie (Mason) Somers. Shorty worked as a trouble shooter at Bell Labs/Alcatel-Lucent in Massachusetts until he retired at age 55. He loved spending time with his family especially his nephew Christopher. Surviving are his brother Paul F. and wife Julie Somers and sister Sharon Ostrander and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Myrna Dufton. The family would like to remember 3 special nurses, Jamie, Stacey, and Jill, who made it possible for Shorty to be home with his family the last year of his life with their amazing skills, knowledge and especially loving care which they gave him. As per Shorty's wishes, cremation took place and a service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
