Leander B. Snyder, 86, of Hancock, NY, died on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY, after a short illness. He was born on June 6, 1932 in Carbondale, PA, the son of George and Luella (Bennett) Snyder.
Lee was very active throughout his life. In his high school years, he played football and basketball. In his 20s he enjoyed hunting trips to Canada and later, continued to actively hunt turkey and deer, and was a member of the Tomar Mountain Gun Club for 62 years, from 1954-2016. Lee was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Reserves from 1951-1959. Lee retired after 30 years of being a stone mason and in earlier years, owned Snyder Oil Company. He was a member of the Hancock Fire Department for 64 years, a former Captain of the Hancock Rescue Squad, and a charter member of the Hancock Golf Course. In his later years, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and taught them how to fish. His great loves of all, was sitting in the backyard with his wife, Ginny, watching the Delaware River go by, and being outdoors at Tomar.
Surviving are 2 children, Brenda L. Snyder, Leesburg, VA, and Brian T. Snyder, Hancock, NY, 2 grandchildren, Amanda N. and Kyle A. Mihalka, Leesburg, VA, 1 nephew, Robert Martin, 1 niece, Sandra Greenman, and 1 brother in law, Richard Martin, and many nieces & nephews from the Green family that enjoyed seeing as well. Lee was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Green Snyder and many members of the Green family, his sister, Nancy Martin, and many good friends and extended family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 11AM-1PM with a funeral service following at 1PM all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Pastor Fred Snyder will officiate and interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
