Lillian Marie (Thomson) Smith, most people knew her as Marie, for many years a well-known resident of Hancock, NY, has left us to be with her husband Ken, who predeceased her in 1991. Marie was born on a farm in Sanford, NY, on February 22, 1926. She is survived by 3 children, Stephen J. Smith Sr. and wife, Jeanne, Jeffry L. Smith, Sr. and wife, Ingrid, and Sandra (Smith) Fotusky, all of Johnson City, NY. Marie had 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and several extended grand and great grandchildren, all of whom were the light of her life. Also surviving is a sister, Beverly Soule, 3 sisters-in-law, Peachie Thomson, Marion Thomson, and Margie Warner, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Bob and Don, 1 sister, Marion, and her daughter-in-law, Gale (Dixon) Smith. Marie was very proud of her family and showed it through many years of gatherings at her home in Hancock. She enjoyed her friends through work and social life. For many years, she was an active member of the Eastern Star, the Hancock Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, and a supportive member of the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock. Marie worked for several years at the former Grand Union in its original location. Later she worked for many years at the local Sears Catalog store. A special thank you goes to Pam Thomas for her loving care given to Mom, to the Lourdes Hospice Team and all of the close family and friends who provided constant support and love this past year. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 6-9PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. There will be a funeral service on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11AM at the Emory United Methodist Church, also Hancock. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
