Linda M. OBrien of Hancock passed away at home Monday June 13, 2022 after a full and well lived life.
The daughter and only child of Milton and Lillian (Wahl) Phillips, Linda was born in Binghamton, NY on March 20, 1950. A graduate of HCS in the class of 1968, she attended Beauticians School in Elmira, NY before joining her mother in the operation of Lillians Beauty Shoppe, which she took over after her mom retired and ran for 20+ years until her own retirement in the mid1990s. Never one to sit still, Linda worked as a bookkeeper in her husband Michaels office of LPL Financial, was a part time court clerk for the Town of Hancock Court, and was a volunteer and Elder for the local First Presbyterian Church. On behalf of her Church, Linda and her team prepared and served lunch for the Hancock Rotary Club that met Thursdays in the church club room.
A 35+ year member of the Boy Scouts of America, Linda started as a Cubmaster and later served up until her death as a Unit Commissioner for Troop 74 Hancock, and as a mentor to many younger adult scout leaders. She was extremely proud that her son Brent, her grandsons Ryan and Christopher are all Eagle Scouts. Linda is a James E. West Fellow of the BSA, recipient of the District Award of Merit, and was recently awarded the Cliff Docterman Award by the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians.
Linda was a past president of the Hancock Rotary club (2002-2003), she made two trips to Mexico delivering wheelchairs for the Wheelchair foundation, promoted "Lindas Nickels" supporting Hunger Plus of Sugarland Texas in sending food worldwide with fellow Rotarians. Linda was a Rotary Foundation Paul Harris fellow, a Major Donor of the Rotary Foundation, and instituted a program of Gifting Paul Harris Fellowships to Hancock citizens for community service. The last two were awarded to Friends of the Upper Delaware in 2021, and to Dr. Richard Berg, DO on his retirement in May of 2022.
Linda is survived by her husband of 28 years Michael OBrien, her son and daughter in law Brent and Kathy Laskowski, and their children Christopher, Ashley, Katie, and Andrew. Linda is Pre-deceased by her parents and her daughter Michelle Callan (Dan). Linda is survived by Michelles children, Kaitlyn Callan (Jay Baker) and children Harper Baker and Henry Baker. Also, granddaughter Cassandra Callan (Dan Recker) and children Melody Recker and Madelyn Recker. Linda was very proud of her grandson Ryan Callan. Linda is also survived by cousins Gail Schoonmaker, Richard Price (Dot), John Price (Marion).
May God hold her close and grant her peace as a reward for a full life, well lived.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 10AM-11AM with a funeral service following at 11AM all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
