Obituary

Madaleen E. Gorton ,93, passed away on March 31, 2016 at Wilson Hospital after a brief illness. Maddy was the daughter of the late Beatrice (Devaney) Esolen and the late Michael Esolen. Maddy was born on September 5, 1922 in Cadosia. One of 6 children, she was predeceased by Eveleen Poe, Eileen Hartgrove, Michael Jr., Douglas and Charles Esolen. Maddy is survived by her companion of 55 years, George Crawford of Hancock and four children, Georgene Smith and her three children, Robin Campbell (Daniel)of Chapin, South Carolina, Joshua Smith of Hancock and Francine Baumgartner (David) of Naples Florida; Douglas and Jill (Woodmansee) Gorton of Hancock and their 3 children, David and Judy (Franskevicz) of Greene, Matthew and Marla (Appley) of Kirkwood and Sara Gorton of Hancock; Teresa Davis of Hancock and her three children, Mike Salvatore Jr., of Windsor, Denise Salvatore Benson of Syracuse, and Deanna Salvatore of East Branch. Garry and Sue (Parsons) Cahill of Walton and their 2 children Gregory and Janie Cahill of Georgia and Erica Cahill of Walton. She is survived by 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one sister in law, Dorothy Esolen of Hancock. Maddy worked at Hinman Howard and Kattell of Binghamton for many years prior to her tenure at the Hancock Telephone Company where she worked for many years, retiring from there at the age of 70. Maddy was a fixture in the neighborhood and everyone remembers her walking her three miles a day. A resident of the Pennsylvania side of Hancock, she was known and loved by three generations of friends and neighbors. She was the first to quietly lend a hand to people who needed a helping hand. She didn't want her many good deeds known or talked about. She loved puttering around outside with her garden and flowers or raking her leaves. She will be missed.A graveside service will be held for Maddy on-April 16 at 11 AM in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, followed by a celebration of her life and a meal at Father Rausch Hall, Hancock.Arrangements by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.
