Margaret "Peggy" Evanitsky passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born July 19th, 1943 in Salem, NJ, to Albert and Helen (Zerfass) Schoonmaker. She married Andrew J. Evanitsky who predeceased her in 2014.
Surviving are her 2 daughters, Cheryl (John) Robinson and Mary Lynn (Walter) Smith, 2 grandsons, Matthew (Connie) Evanitsky, and Adam (Wynter) Newman, and 7 great grandchildren, Andrew, Grace, Aiden, Layla, and Matthew Evanitsky, and Andyn and Case Newman. Also surviving are her brothers, David (Leta) Schoonmaker, and Gary (Cindy) Schoonmaker, 3 sister-in-laws, Gail Schoonmaker, Matoka Kallay, and Sharon Schoonmaker, brother in law, Theron (Linda) Evanitsky, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Laurie, 2 grandsons, Donald "Tommy" and Tyler Cobb, son-in-law, Don Cobb, and 2 brothers, Albert "John" and Craig Schoonmaker.
Peggy worked along side her father and brother, Gary, in the cable TV business, Hancock Video, and in 1989 built Lakewood Cable Co. After selling Lakewood Cable, she worked at The Hancock Telephone Co. until her retirement.
She was a volunteer for many years with many organizations; the Lake Como Community Hall, American Legion Six Star Post 209 Memorial Day Services, and the Hancock Chamber of Commerce, where she made sure all the children got to see Santa and receive their mittens and Christmas stockings. Any fund raising event, she was the first in line to volunteer. Peggy was a lifelong member of the Hancock Firemens Auxiliary. She loved to play golf, bingo, and taking trips with the girls. She loved her family and her community and it showed in everything she did.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 12PM-3PM with the funeral service following at 3PM all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
The family asks that any donations be to any charity or organization of their choice, be it a local family or anyone in need of a helping hand. Pay it forward, as she would have.
