Obituary

On Thursday, August 3, 2023, Marilyn J Stamets, loving partner and mother of 5 passed away surrounded by her husband of 42 years, children, and grandchildren. She loved studying the Bible and following politics and was always up for a lively debate with family, friends, and strangers on both subjects.

Marilyn was a graduate of Hancock High School Class of 1963 where she was class president and salutatorian. After graduation, she attended Penn State University.

She enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren's accomplishments and adventures. Marilyn had a very loyal group of friends, some dating back to grade school. Even in her illness, they kept up with their visits. Laughter was the center of their conversations.

A talented musician, Marilyn shared her love of music by performing at the Inn at Starlight Lake as well as the Fireside. She wrote and composed the Alma Matter for Preston School and worked with renowned polka artist, Walt Groller, but the most important thing for her was her family. Music was always a part of her home as she played her organ for family gatherings, especially Christmas.

Marilyn's hobbies included cryptozoology, UFOs, Quantum Theory, collecting kitchen gadgets, filing endless papers and recipes, and recording countless hours of TV programs. In her youth, she enjoyed horseback riding with her cousin Carol and playing tennis with her dear friend, Ruby.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Stamets, their children Arthur Jones and his wife Maureen, Amy Jones and Marty, Melissa Cruz and husband Gilbert, Heather Corn and husband Kenneth and Jonathan Stamets and wife Heather. 11 cherished grandchildren: Connelly Jones, Grace Jones, Kelsey Frisk, Marissa, Matthew and Jill Cruz, Ashley Banning and husband Michael, Peter and CJ Corn, Gage and Grayson Stamets. 2 great grandchildren: Cameron Cruz and Eleanor Banning. Also surviving is ex- husband Art Jones and wife Linda who have remained as close family members over the years.

A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at the New Covenant Fellowship Church, 32 Columbus Ave., Hawley, PA on August 19th at 1:30 PM with Pastor Ron Schutz officiating. Instead of flowers, Donations in her honor can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, Northern Wayne Fire Co., or Thompson Fire Co.
