Mary Lou Hunter, 77, passed away August 15, 2019 after a short illness. She was born September 7, 1941 to the late Frank and Sadie Gales in Hancock, NY.
Mary grew up on the Gales family farm where she worked along side her dad, brother, and uncles. She graduated from Hancock Central School in 1959. She married the love of her life, Alfred J. Hunter on April 28, 1968 in Jeffersonville, NY. Mary worked many years for Broome County before retiring. Mary was not a person who liked retirement and went back to work, first working for John Mason Agency then the Family Foundation School. When the school closed, Mary went back to John Mason Agency before she retired permanently and enjoyed her life at home.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Alfred (Red) Hunter, her children, Mark (Amy) Bass, Kim (Eric) Schmitz, Jim (Wendy) Hunter, John (Margaret) Hunter, and David (Tracy) Hunter, 13 grandchildren, Desiree, Sheree (Michael) Noviello, Diona, Jonathan, Ethan, MacKenzie, and Bianca Bass, Haley (Kyle) Manarky, Brooke Hunter, Jamie (Pat) Kille, Jonathan (Jessica) Hunter, and Lucas and Trevor Hunter, 13 great grandchildren, several cousins, 2 nephews, and 1 niece. Mary was predeceased by her brother, Robert Gales.
Burial will be private.
