Milford L. "Mell" Middelstaedt, Jr. died in Richmond TX on April 13, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Elizabeth NJ on October 7, 1942, the only son of Milford L. and Ellen (nee Henry) Middelstaedt, who predeceased him, as did his sister Marietta Treidel. Mell is survived by his sons Charles (Maria) Middlesteadt of Cooper City, FL and M. Frederick (Sivietta) Middelstaedt of Richmond, TX, and six grandchildren: Kiera Marie and Marjorie Middlesteadt and Liam, London, Logan and Evren Middelstaedt. He is also survived by his sisters Eileen (Eugene died) Foley of Lordville, NY and Jupiter, FL, and Jean (James "Jack") Cutrone of Sag Harbor, NY and Equinunk, PA, and many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. The different spellings of Middelstaedt / Middlesteadt are a long story going back several generations, and depended upon who filled out the birth certificates.
He graduated from Morris Catholic High School in Denville, NJ in 1962, Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ in 1966, and Seton Hall School of Law, Newark, NJ in 1971. He started in the insurance industry with The Prudential Insurance Company of America in NJ , and moved to FL to work for John Alden Life Insurance Company, from which he retired. He was an active little league coach and scout leader with his sons, and enjoyed fly fishing and rafting on the Delaware River, as a long time vacationer in Lordville.
He will be buried on Tuesday, April 21 in the Stockport Cemetery, where he will join his parents, sister and brother-in-law.
