Nellie J. Mead, 85, of Preston Park, PA, died on Friday, February 24, 2017 at home, after a short illness. She was born on January 20, 1932 in Scott Center, the daughter of Floyd and Eliza (Hallstead) Whitmore. Nellie married Ralph Mead on January 16, 1949 in East Ararat, PA, and he predeceased her on March 2, 1992. Nellie was a member of the Northern Wayne Ladies Sewing Group, Senior Citizens Group, and was active in the Northern Wayne Food Pantry . She was also a member of the Northern Wayne Fire Dept Auxiliary. Surviving are 4 children, Nila (Ray) Rieman, Nora (Dale) Robbins, Nina Price, and Ronald (Betty) Mead, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by 7 brothers, Jim, Edward, Dick, Howard, Jackie, David, and Donald Whitmore, 4 sisters, Jenny Dodge, Velma Baldwin, Vicky Bullis, and Marie Rowe, and many nieces and nephews. Nellie was predeceased by a son, Glenford Mead, son in law, Fritz Price, and 4 siblings, Helen Stone, John Whitmore, Ruth Rowe, and Lois Drake. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 11AM also at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in East Ararat Cemetery, East Ararat, PA.
