Richard "Dick" Hallstead, 87, of Hancock, NY, died suddenly on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at home. He was born on December 17, 1935 in Hancock, NY, the son of George L. and Permelia (Schriver) Hallstead.

Dick was a US Army Veteran and served from 1954-1958. He married Sylvia J. Maslar on October 27, 1962 in Forest City, PA. She predeceased him September 10, 2016. Dick was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 289 in Hancock, NY. He was also a member of the Tomar Mountain Gun Club for over 40 years. He worked for over 25 years and retired from the NYSDOT. Dick was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cutting bluestone. He also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.

Surviving are 2 sons, Rich (Kim) and Chris (Kathie); 5 grandchildren: Morgan, Christopher Jr., JJ, Maygan, and Leal Hallstead; and 2 great grandchildren, Raven and Archer. Dick is also survived by 2 sisters, Juanita Palmer and Georgia Capach; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sons at birth, Jerry and Larry; 1 brother, Gerald Hallstead; and a 1 sister, Luella Gotthardt.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 3PM-5PM followed by a brief military ceremony, performed by the American Legion Post 289, Hancock, at 5PM all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. There will be a celebration of Dick's life following at 6PM at the Tomar Gun Club, Jay Lord Rd., Hancock, NY, 13783.
