Rita Bloomer Marchese passed away on July 9, 2026, in Binghamton, New York, due to complications following a fall that resulted in a broken hip.
In her final days, Rita spoke openly about her excitement to begin her next journey. She smiled brightly when she knew it was time, sharing all the things she looked forward to on the other side. Her peace, acceptance, and readiness brought comfort to those who loved her.
Rita traveled from Arizona to New York on June 17, 2026, to attend the burial of her sister, Kathryn. Just two days later, on June 19, she suffered a fall that broke her hip. Despite the dedicated care she received, she passed away from complications of that injury.
If you knew Rita, you laughed with her. Her quick wit and unmatched sarcasm could brighten any room, and she never missed an opportunity to say exactly what was on her mind. She was fiercely honest, funny, and unforgettable.
Rita was born on April 26, 1941, in Manhattan, New York, to Ila (Whipple) and Alfred Bloomer. A graduate of Hancock High School 1958, she spent 30 years working for IBM in Owego, New York. She made her home in Binghamton, where she raised her two children, Daniel and Denise. After retiring from IBM, Rita enjoyed life in Daytona Beach, Florida, before settling in Surprise, Arizona, where she could be close to her beloved grandchildren, Logan and Bridgett, who knew her as Tita. For the last 10 years, Rita shared a home with them and was a constant, loving presence in their lives.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Ila and Alfred Bloomer, and her sister, Kathryn May.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Marchese Jr. and his partner, Brent Hartman; her daughter, Denise Marchese Ballard; her grandchildren, Logan Ballard and his partner, Jessica Calderon, and Bridgett Ballard; her siblings, Alice Ray, James Bloomer, and George Bloomer; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, aides, and cafeteria staff on the third floor of Binghamton General Hospital for the exceptional compassion and care they provided. They would also like to thank the Hancock Rescue Squad for their kindness, professionalism, and support during a difficult time.
Rita’s laughter, honesty, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
