On Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020 Robert Dircks died at the Chestnut Park Rehab/Nursing home in Oneonta, NY with complications of Type 1 diabetes. Robert was born Feb. 24, 1939 and moved to Hancock, NY, from St. Albans, Queens, NY in 1959. For many years he was employed at Fox Bowling Alley and resided in Hancock. He graduated from Chelsea Vocational School in New York City.
He was predeceased by his parents Herman and Edna Dircks, his infant sister Elaine, and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his cousins, Diane Powell Merrill of Greene, NY and Nancy Powell Bulger of Boca Raton, FL and their children, Mark, Edward and Becky and by second cousin Paul Brandenburg of Lenoir, NC
Robert was an excellent bowler and bowled several times a week for many years. He enjoyed going on bus trips and spending time with his friends and family. During the years that Robert lived in Stamford, NY, through Project Independence and recently ARC, he traveled to RFI in Walton and back each day. When work was available Robert worked there and was paid. He was kept busy with many projects such as learning to use a computer and painting large posters. He loved being at RFI.
Roberts family is very grateful for the kindness of the staff at RFI and at his home, especially Sean Russo and all the others who Robert knew and loved. Many thanks to those who helped Robert through the years, mainly the Marino family and Bob Colarini and the Hancock Rescue Squad.

Private burial will be held in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, and a celebration of Roberts life will be held at a later date.
