Obituary

Robert Y. Raymond, 68, of Hancock, NY, went home to be with his Lord, on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, after a prolonged illness. He was born on August 14, 1946 in Deposit, NY, the son of Cecil and Esther (Gillette) Raymond. On June 15, 1968, he married Wanda Walker in Hancock.After graduating from Deposit Central School, Robert served his country in Vietnam where he was wounded after setting off a landmine, while on a scouting mission. As a result, he received an honorable discharge from the US Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Conspicuous Service Award, New York's highest military award.Bob worked at Bard Parker/Becton Dickinson for 25 years as a setup man in the extrusion department. He retired from there after suffering a stroke. Bob was a member of the Hancock Rescue Squad and Fire Department, the American Legion and the Buckingham Baptist Church. He was an avid woodworker and loved making things for everyone. He was very active in his church and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Bob loved attending any event that his children or grandchildren were involved in, no matter how big or small.Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Wanda Raymond, his children, Rebecca and Jay Smith, Hancock, NY, and Mark and Christine Raymond, Homer, NY, his four granddaughters, the apples of his eye, Meghan, Rachel and Katherine Smith and Brooke Raymond. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Berger of Stuart, FL, a sister in law, Anita Raymond of Deposit, NY, a brother and sister in law, Leigh and Mary Walker, East Greenbush, NY, and a brother and sister in law, Harold and Diane Walker, Canajoharie, NY, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Donald Raymond, and brother in law, Richard Berger. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 5-8pm and a service on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 11:00 am all at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock, NY.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's memory to Buckingham Baptist Church P.O.
