Robert J. Runge, Sr. of Hancock, NY passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the age of 84. His wife and dog "Skippy," were at his side.
Bob is survived by his wife Susan, son Robert Runge, Jr., daughters Pam Berman and Audra Towsley, step-children Lynn Wray Grant and John Wray, grandchildren Jacob, Rebecca, Seth, Logan, Jordan, Shawn, Aidan and one great-grand-child, Abigail. Born on August 25, 1934 to the late Emma Scholz and Gerhardt Runge in Nyack, NY, he graduated from Pearl River High School in 1952, and earned an AAS degree in Agricultural Engineering from Alfred State College in 1954. Bob had a 20-year career in construction contracting and real estate. In 1991, he changed careers to serve as Admissions Director and Human Relations Director at The Family Foundation School, a private residential school for high-risk adolescents. He loved the outdoors, engaging in hunting, fishing, hiking and riding horses before gradually losing his sight in the 1990s. Bob was admired for his acceptance and uncomplaining attitude under the most difficult of circumstances. His easy-going manner and contagious love for life made others comfortable and earned him the title, "Uncle Bob."
All are welcome to join in a celebration of his life on Saturday, September 15, from 4-6 PM, at Henderson- Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, 29 East Main Street, Hancock, NY 13783.
