Obituary

Rosalia Cintrón, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, July 20th. Rosalia was born and raised in the mountains of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico and blessed with 15 brothers and sisters. In her early twenties, she came to the Bronx, New York. Made a single mother at a young age, Rosalia gave everything she could to raise her three children. Once her children were old enough to have their own, Rosalia moved to New Jersey and became a grandmother, renamed “Kika” by her eldest grandson from then on.

Rosalia was a lover of life, food, music, dancing, and laughter. An active woman until her late 80’s, she would walk miles around her neighborhood, singing out with a small radio attached to her hip connected to over-ear headphones, which she would take off to make friendly conversation with anyone who crossed her path. When she wasn’t walking, Rosalia could be found swinging to a salsa tune at her children’s houses, with a glass of wine in one hand and partnering up with whoever happened to be at her side. And, if sitting down, she would be sipping on a strong espresso, watching her favorite novelas, giving advice, or catching up on the latest gossip — because according to her, although she didn’t like gossip, “it entertained” her. No matter what she was doing or where she was, Rosalia always brought comfort, laughter, and love to anyone who was blessed to be in her presence.

Rosalia is survived by her three children and six grandchildren: Dannisse, her husband Sal, her son Nico, her son Chris, and her daughter-in-law Jimena; Nydia, her son Gian, and her daughter Emily; Carlos, and his daughters Kaylee and Karilee.

A memorial for Rosalia will be held at a later date.
