Obituary

Ruth Gay Frederick, 94, of Lakewood, PA, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021. She was born on March 27, 1926, in Buffalo, NY to Owen W. and Ruth L. Gay. Ruth and her husband, Charles (Bud), met on a blind date in Lewisburg, PA, while she was a student at Bucknell University. They married and, in 1952, moved to Lakewood to raise their family. Ruth began teaching in Lake Como at the last one room schoolhouse of Wayne County. She continued her career in the Wayne Highlands School District until her retirement in 1990. Ruth is fondly remembered by her many students. Serving her community in numerous ways, Ruth was a founding member of the Rail Trail Council of NEPA and the Northern Wayne Community Library. She was a leader and a volunteer and was active in the Lake Como United Methodist Church. Ruth had many interests including quilting, reading, music, and especially Penn State Football. Ruths bright smile and thoughtfulness touched many lives. She was known for her card outreach and never forgetting a special time in the lives of many people. Ruth loved the church, the people, and the beauty of Northern Wayne County. Predeceased by Bud, her husband of 51 years, and her son, Charles Owen Frederick, Ruth is survived by her daughters - Sharon Hadley (Stanley), Carolyn Homer, Anne Warnott (Cary) and daughter-in-law, Kristine Frederick. Ruth was adored by her grandchildren - Sara Flynn, Andrea Swartz, Melissa Homer, Kyle Homer, Hannah Frederick, Emma Frederick, Cora Frederick, Uriah Frederick, Amy Wormuth, Cary Warnott Jr., Christianne Botelho, and her 12 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her friend, Marium Llewellyn, and the devoted staff at Bethany Village for the love and selfless care given to our Mom and Gram.
