Stanley Masten, 84, of Harvard, NY, died on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at home after a long illness. He was born on September 29, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Max and Esther (Pocter) Masten. Stan quit school, ran away from home at a young age, and worked on the docks where he was injured. He eventually received his GED and went on to college where he did exceptionally well and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's most prestigious honor society. Stan retired after 30 years of working as a probation officer in NYC to Delaware Co., NY, a place that he enjoyed his whole life and was able to spend his last years. Stan also enjoyed walking and spending time with his dogs. Surviving are his wife, Gretchen, 2 children, David and Laura Masten, 1 brother, his twin, Irving, and 1 sister, Shirley Rosenstein. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances and 1 sister, Phyllis. Stan's wishes were for cremation and there will be no services.
