Obituary

Van C. Peters, 90, of Hancock, NY, passed peacefully on November 26, 2025. Raised in Peas Eddy near Hancock, he was the eighth child of Maude and Knighton Peters. Van was a proud graduate of Hancock Central School, where he captained the football team.

Van successfully ran the family farm and founded Peters Logging, earning respect throughout Delaware and neighboring counties for his integrity, work ethic, and energy. Known affectionately as "The Last John Wayne," he was featured in the August 2009 issue of The Northern Logger.

In 1957, Van married Beverly R. Faling, his wife of 69 years. Together, they built multiple family businesses, including Peters Logging, Peters Family Maple Syrup, Peters Farm, and Peters LLC. Their greatest joy was raising their four children and spending time with their grand and great grandchildren.

Van was a gentleman, outdoorsman, and devoted father who loved hunting, farming, and helping anyone in need.

He was predeceased by his wife Beverly. Surviving are his children Laura (Pat) Wilson, Karen (Michael) Ishitani, Priscilla (Brian) Duda, and Van (Sherry) Peters, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
